Evan McCarthy
Attorney
Evan started working with Catholic Charities Milwaukee in 2019. As a new immigration attorney, he has started by learning asylum and R-1 cases. Evan will continue to expand his legal portfolio with new cases ranging from deportation defense to naturalization.
Evan grew up in a neighborhood where U.S. citizens are well-integrated with their local immigrant community. Attending school with new Americans and befriending them shaped how he views this country and what it stands for. After learning how frustrating it is to navigate the immigration system, Evan realized that he wanted to work on behalf of the immigrant community. He wants to make his clients’ immigration process as easy as possible.
Evan graduated from the University of Iowa law school in May of 2019. As a student he worked in the school’s immigration clinic where he primarily worked on asylum cases. Evan also gave public presentations on immigration laws, policies, and helping immigrants prepare themselves for emergencies.
In his free time, Evan likes to read and explore Milwaukee, since he’s still new to the area. Fun fact: I once unlawfully crossed into Canada and back into the United States without a passport due to a GPS mishap at Niagara Falls.

How to Shop for a Lawyer
Catholic Charities Has Limited Availability
Unfortunately, our case load is often at full capacity which prevents us from accepting new clients. We strongly urge you to take the time to shop for a good immigration attorney who can give you an honest assessment of your case. To help you get started, we have created a lawyer shopping guide and an immigration attorney referral list.
Additional Resources
When you have to depend on your lawyer to help you navigate and understand your options, it is especially important to find someone trustworthy and competent.
Refugees coming to the United States must make several adjustments, and often have questions about green cards, citizenship, and work permits.
These three immigration mistakes could seriously hurt your chances of getting a green card, or lawfully immigrating to the United States.
